Michael Wallner creates colourful and recognisable interpretations of London’s landmarks on aluminium. We talk about how he gets the images and why he keeps getting drawn back to London.
What is it that draws you to London's skyline and buildings? Why London and not some other city?
I love the mix of the old and the new in London: St Paul’s and the Shard, Shakespeare’s Globe next to the Brutalist National Theatre. London’s skyline is one of the best in the world a wonderfully abstract mix of different shapes and sizes. This makes it the perfect muse for my art.
London is my hometown and my favourite city in the world. But I love many cities - they are the main focus of my art. London has a great mix of architectural styles, but New York also gives me a fantastic buzz. Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Sydney, Dubai, Barcelona and Paris also feature in my collections.
